I looked forward with interest to studying this guide on marketing online because I am presently rebranding and building a new website.  Most of the information was already familiar to me since I have a good deal of experience using social media.  With that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised to discover a plethora of useful information and tricks that helped me with my project.  The author often presents these as RED HOT TIPS.  Here are a few of the things I learned:

  • Linkedin sends almost four times more users to your homepage than Facebook or Twitter
  • When using Google+, add entire blog posts rather than just links because blog posts get more attention
  • You don’t have to be on every social media site, only the ones that matter to your market.

This book is excellent for both beginners and experienced bloggers alike.  If you don’t have any social media experience, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest etc. it will teach you how to set up these accounts and give you advice on how to make them more effective.  It also teaches you how to get the most out of your social media.

You learn how to create the perfect website and how to drive traffic to your different pages. Understanding Google Analytics, SEO and learning how to use keywords properly are important tools to making your website a success. There was so much information in this book but it was nicely broken down into manageable chapters that you can refer back to.  I had marked and underlined the information that I needed as I read through the chapters.

I highly recommend this guide to anyone who wants to build an engaging and profitable website.

Review:  This was just the book I needed.  I have a book for sale on Amazon and never really understood all the steps required to properly promote my book.  Penny’s book came with some practical flash cards entitled “RED HOT book hacks” that you can use as reminders every time you sell a book on Amazon.  She also included other cards called “TIPS” that teach you to promote your book properly. There are illustrations taken from Amazon.com that teach you how to navigate around its website.  (this is very Indiana Jones!) The book is divided into these sections:

  • understanding Amazon
  • what publishing looks like now
  • how to research keywords
  • creating bestselling book ideas
  • keyword strategies for greater visibility
  • simple keyword success strategies to rock your book
  • the importance of Amazon categories
  • Amazon themes
  • Amazon book pricing
  • (etc.  there are so many more!)
As I read through the book I kept marking areas that I need to work on but I had so many that I will just highly a few, i.e.:
– getting reviewed
– gifting e-books
I plan to sit down and go through each chapter and work on my author page as well as re-work the keywords for my book.  I also need to work at getting more reviewers. This book is going to be “super useful” as I plan to publish another book in the near future and I want to promote it properly.  Thanks Penny for all the hard work you put into this practical guide!
