Book Description:

Matt Tremain publishes Verité, a modest blog dedicated to writing about the truth and exposing scams. Currently, he’s following up on rumors concerning something called CleanSweep, a mysterious project in Toronto, Canada.

Matt gets his break when a whistleblower connects CleanSweep to billionaire Charles Claussen. Claussen plans to rid Toronto of undesirables, beginning with street people and extending to any citizens who don’t match Claussen’s restrictive screening matrix.

With the help of a high-ranking government official, Claussen plans to incite riots and violent unrest, conning Torontonians into sacrificing privacy and civil liberties for illusionary security and safety. Toronto will be reduced to a repressive city-state.

The information overwhelms Matt, who doubts he has the courage, skill, or readership to take on CleanSweep. But the murder of his source convinces the blogger to take a stand—although he’s too late to prevent chaos from gripping Toronto’s streets.

To get the word out, Matt’s going to need allies. He may have found some in a Toronto police detective and a local TV reporter pursuing the same story—presuming they aren’t allied with Claussen. If they are, Matt’s going to become yet another victim of CleanSweep, and the truth will be buried forever.

Meet the author:

Born in Iowa, Chuck Waldron lived in Ontario, Canada, before relocating to Florida’s Treasure Coast. Over the years, he’s held many jobs. The ones he can mention in print include US Army soldier, truck driver, office manager, mailman, real estate salesman, social worker, hardware store clerk, and shuttle driver.

Fate played a crucial role when he walked into his first writing class, and he still honors the memory of the teacher, Henrietta. She gave him permission to write. That—along with countless writing groups, classes, seminars, and much sweat—has resulted in over fifty short stories and four novels.

Waldron often likes to pretend interest, lacks perseverance, and could generally use a good talking to—until it comes to his writing, that is. He and his wife Suzanne reside in Port St. Lucie, Florida. While keeping an eye out for hurricanes, alligators, and Burmese pythons, he’s busy writing his next novel

The Journey to The CleanSweep Conspiracy

Thanks for having me and allowing me the chance to talk about The CleanSweep Conspiracy, my newest novel, polished, printed and searching for new readers.

As I planned the launch party, I was reminded of what Winston Churchill said: “Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with it is a toy and amusement. Then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster and fling him to the public.”

That sent me back to my notes, reflecting on the beginning of the adventure. I looked at the first word, the first sentence, and the first paragraph of the first draft of The CleanSweep Conspiracy. None of those first words survived the journey, making into the final version. My latest adventure was a trip that took far longer than expected. How many times did I ask myself along the way, “Are we there yet?”

The first person I met on this writing journey was the main character in the story, Matt. I’m not clear on just how and where we met. It might have been a waking-up-in-the morning half dream. It might have been a casual thought as I was driving. Regardless, Matt turned out to be the perfect person for the story. Matt was perfect because he’s not a superhero. Far from it, he’s more like the majority of us. He’s someone who would have gone unnoticed if he hadn’t stepped into the heart of the story. Once there he chose courage and to do what needed to be done, in spite of his fear telling him to do otherwise.

There’s a sign at the entrance to Winchester Cathedral: “You are entering a conversation that began long before you were born and will continue long after you are dead.”  It speaks to a continuum. We think everything around us is new when we are only living at a point on that continuum. Matt was about to find himself entering a story, a conversation that started before he was born, and will likely continue long after he is gone.

Matt Tremain, a shy, private person, discovered a passion for writing blogs—a mission that propelled him into investigative reporting. A tipster named Tanner warned him about a diabolical scheme; Matt simply couldn’t close his eyes to it. After Tanner had been killed, Matt honored his memory by going forward to investigate the truth behind the conspiracy. He met a television reporter and a cameraman also investigating the intrigue. Would they be potential partners or rivals, he wondered? A detective offered his assistance, but Matt was unsure of his real motivation. When Matt Tremain and his friends are forced to go on the run, evading the newly-formed security teams, they must expose the truth before they are discovered, arrested and perhaps exterminated themselves…

The CleanSweep Conspiracy takes place in a Toronto, but it could never happen for real, right? I can only hope not. We are all trying to come to terms with balancing the need for a sense of security with our privacy. What are we willing to trade for that feeling as we move through the day being photographed and video recorded by traffic cameras, convenience store video cams, the lens of an ATM, and so much more.

This has been especially true since the 9/11 wake-up call. And we saw how quick cameras were to put together what happened with the bombing at the 2013 Boston Marathon.

Yet, how much of our privacy do we need to give up?

My story has an evil character, the anti-hero and the group he organized to instigate mayhem and destruction, a group he calls the Free Eagle Militia. He tells his co-conspirators with bluntness, “Brunner’s hooligan, his so-called Free Eagle Militia, will create a climate so frightening that everyone, even the sniveling liberals, will beg for security. When they do, CleanSweep will be the answer to their prayers. CleanSweep will step forward, and the public disturbances will be put down. Citizens will thank us.”

Here’s what one author said about The CleanSweep Conspiracy. “This is a fast-paced novel, a page-turner filled with fascinating characters, a story about a blogger trying to gather proof of a conspiracy. Set in the near future, a fanatical group is planning to upset the social order, paving the way for their group to take total control.” She went on to say, “The premise is disturbingly believable.”

REVIEWS:
.
PJ Mouse in Canada:  PJ Mouse’s adventure continues in a trip with Emily across Canada.  The family travels in a 5th wheel (and if you don’t know what that is, there is a picture of it to show you).  I’ve travelled extensively throughout Canada but PJ has done stuff that I haven’t even done – like climb a glacier!  He gets to visit Niagara Falls and learn French in Quebec.  What a smart little mouse!   There is a map of Canada in the back for you to follow along.
.
I’ve learned things about Canada that I never knew before.  The hand drawings are cute and fit the story perfectly.
.
PJ Mouse in Queensland:  PJ is off “down under” – that is Australia!  Along with his very own teeny suitcase and passport PJ is ready for more adventures.  Fortunately, his stuffing doesn’t get lumpy on the plane ride and he and Emily are off to Dreamworld for some rides and fun. They visit two important parts of Australia – the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest where PJ meets a Lorikeet (I’ve seen Lorikeets in Australia – they’re sooo pretty!)
Read on to see more of PJ’s adventures with the loggerhead turtle.
.
These little books together with their companion PJ Mouse stuffed animal and little passport book with stickers make a wonderful gift.
